The Gap

2026-05-15 · acceleration cognition technology reflection

It’s 2026, and I wake up each day to a new technological advancement. It’s thrilling—immense, astonishing, and deeply exciting.

Depending on where you are on the internet, your T.P.O.T. can shape how these advancements feel: sometimes they produce a sense of agency, sometimes anxiety, sometimes both. The energy around that space can tilt people toward optimism or toward dread. Everyone has their opinions and beliefs, and ideally those beliefs come from careful thought. Still, no matter where one stands on acceleration, it is difficult to challenge a group’s view just because I’m dissatisfied with the way they see things. And I also do not see things exactly as they are, not in the way everyone else seems to.

But furthermore, these technological advancements have turned my reality into something like a movie I would have only ever dreamed of living in, if I had known such things were possible. Some people knew of these things already; I only arrived later. But when I did, it felt like the perfect story, one I would replay in my head again and again. Now it is happening right in front of me, every day, and I can barely keep up. It feels like a dream come true, and I’m excited to see how it continues to unfold, unlocking human prowess that could only ever have been imagined.

I do not apologize for the romanticism I opened this draft with, but I do apologize for making it something you have to deal with. Still, it would not make sense for you to understand anything else I write here if I did not express myself as I truly feel about the subject.

The title of this draft is The Gap. But this gap is not the ordinary one people tend to fixate on. That difference might vary depending on the kind of person you are, you reading this now. That is one thing about language and writing, and reality as its extension: it is homomorphic. But we, as entities within it, are not. That is interesting to think about, but it is not the discussion I intend to have with you right now, my friend. Some other time.

The gap I keep returning to is simple, but its simplicity sits where complexity thrives. That creates the gap itself, because I am only one person, and truth be told, I have stagnated cognitively for most of my life. Cognitive residue from attention-deficit troubles me. I have a hard time reasoning with laser focus, and it costs me. This is my share of the acceleration: decline inside acceleration, a byproduct moving through time.

I embraced the acceleration.

I have embraced this.

“To love life for the unbounded potential of human being that has revealed itself to us by language and systems built of it, as they—this ‘it’ that we humans work with—has opened my eyes to the difference between knowing and embodied salience, and unironically it begins as position in processes within relationships, and it ends as relationships within processes in position.”

— me

I love the world. Every brink of it. Everything. But it pains me because I do not fully understand it. Not even something. My intuition and perception have developed in a way that leaves me with the highest degree of abstract permeability, but it strips me of tacit conclusiveness, and I feel pained by that. It is sorrowful for me. This is the gap.

The acceleration I hope so much to live in now manifests, and I am unable to ride it fully because I do not have the capacity to endure the thrust. I know I can be better than this. But I do not know how. I have searched for ways to become more, but I have not been able to meet the standards demanded of me by those martyrs.

And every day the gap keeps widening, and I’m still here, caught within the breath of knowing that I know nothing. I wish a DMT trip could give me the thing I need, but more than anything I wish I could develop that power myself, so that DMT could only enhance it. I don’t know why I’m bringing DMT into this, but I heard it does a good job of curing specific types of madness like this.

For if it is not madness, you reader, what would you say you have actually heard me speak of, if anything? I’ve only been writing aphoristically for you to read compressed meaning and stimulate your prefrontal cortex, but functionally nothing has been done here to a certain degree, and this is exactly the gap. It is my problem. And all of this is just the high-level gist of it, but still it does not solve my actual problem of being in “the gap.”

It feels rushed, but it is relieving to express myself and how I particularly feel about this hinge I’ve caught in.

If this seems irreverent, I’m sorry for wasting your time. I also do hope I find help. But if you actually can help me, please reach out @owlcyon.
